The Fusion Professional Group of Hungarian Nuclear Society continued the tradition of attending festivals in order to spread information about nuclear fusion. With the Youth for Nuclear Energy Group we were present at the Sziget, VOLT, EFOTT, Campus and Strand festivals attracting hundreds of visitors to our tent. Our dedicated members were prepared with colourful posters and questionnaires, which also could be filled on smartphone. The visitors were rewarded with fusion themed gifts for their effort.

This year the organization has been participated int he following events, made possible by the support of the Hungarian Nuclear Society:

We participated in two Core Committee Meetings of the European Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network: in Leuven (Belgium) and Manchester (UK). The third one this year will be in Brno (Czech Republic)

We made several appearances in different events:

- The Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management has invited us to appear in Kalocsa

- At the Budapest University of Technology and Economics we participated in “Fizika mindenkié 3.0” (Physics for Everybody 3.0), which is an event held for secondary school students

The members of society participated in several summer festivals (including the famous “Sziget” festival) with the „nuclear tent”. The visitors – mainly young people – could get detailed information on nuclear topics, e.g. basic physical phenomena, radiation, the status of building new NPPs in Hungary and the perspectives of fusion for electricity production.

Considering the construction of two VVER-1200 units at the Paks NPP, the society invited two Russian experts to discuss the technical aspects of reactor building. The experts informed the Hungarian audience on the basic characteristics and safety features of new units and on the modern computer based methods that will be used during design and construction. The speakers said that the first steps of design for the Paks site have already been completed by the Russian institutes.

Several summer festivals are organised in Hungary every year. These festivals are very popular among the young people, the Sziget festival was attended by 415 000 visitors in 2014. The programmes include basically concerts and other performances, but several civil organisations participate with different activities, too. The Young Generation Network of the Hungarian Nuclear Society set up the nuclear tent in four festivals this year (Sziget, VOLT, EFOTT and Campus), where they received young people to talk about nuclear energy. The discussions were focused on the operation of Paks NPP and on the extension the NPP with new Russian units, but other topics (e.g. fusion energy) proved to be also interesting for the festival visitors.

The 8th Nuclear Summer Camp organized by the Hungarian Nuclear Society for secondary school students was held in July 2014. The teenagers arriving from several cities of Hungary listened to presentations given by nuclear experts and teachers on nuclear technology and solved several tasks on nuclear physics and communication. The students carried out special nuclear measurements at the Eötvös Lóránd University and visited the training reactor of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The program of the camp included visits to Paks Nuclear Power Plant and to the Museum of Nuclear Energy.
